At Bridge House Independent School, as part of the Art GCSE course, our year 11 students take part in our annual trip to London to visit the Tate Modern Art gallery. This year the trip took place on Tuesday 22nd January 2019.
Whilst at The Tate Modern Art Gallery, our pupils spent time exploring some of the Tate’s permanent collection, which contains a vast array of contemporary art. Here they completed research and drawing tasks that would contribute towards their externally set assignment. The trip is a great opportunity and a valuable experience for our Art students, as visiting Art exhibitions plays a key role in the development of their skill and appreciation of the subject.
After we had explored the permanent collection we ventured up to the Tate’s ‘Viewing Level’ to experience 360ᵒ views of the London skyline, from high above the River Thames.
Once we had finished in the Art Gallery we went for lunch at Nando’s followed by some retail therapy at Covent Garden and on Oxford street, before heading home.
Visiting an art gallery can be fun, stimulating and thought provoking, and this year’s trip was no exception. Both students and staff experienced an enjoyable day to remember.
